The Democratic Party of Lane County (DPLC) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Field Organizer for work in Eugene/Springfield. The field organizer position is a limited duration assignment, with a targeted start date of August 15 and an end date of November 15 (one week after Election Day). Compensation for this position is $2,000 per month.

Homeowners Get Relief as Governor Signs Democrats' Priority

Reforms help underwater Oregon homeowners, hold banks accountable

SALEM- A hard-fought legislative victory for Oregon homeowners became law today as Governor John Kitzhaber signed SB 1552, a top priority of Democrats in the Legislature this February session. 

The foreclosure reform bill requires banks to meet with homeowners facing foreclosure or underwater on their mortgages in mandatory mediation. It allows homeowners to meet with housing counselors prior to mediation, but enables homeowners to bypass housing counselors if they aren’t able to meet within a thirty day period. It also outlaws the practice of dual-track foreclosures in which banks enter into conversations with homeowners to negotiate terms of a loan while simultaneously beginning the process of foreclosure.

UPDATE: DPLC Endorsements for May 15 Non-Partisan Primary

On March 15, the DPLC Central Committee voted unanimously to endorse Betty Taylor for Eugene City Council - Ward 2 in the May 15 Non-Partisan Primary Election.
The Central Committee had previously endorsed the following candidates:
Kitty Piercy for Mayor of Eugene
Denise Bean for Mayor of Springfield
Pete Sorenson for Lane County Board of Commissioners – South Eugene
Rob Handy for Lane County Board of Commissioners – North Eugene

Priority health care, early learning bills approved in Senate


Health Insurance Exchange & Early Learning Council head to Governor’s desk

SALEM – The Oregon Senate took action today on two major policy initiatives of the 2012 Session. House Bill 4165 implements the Early Learning Council, which will help coordinate resources and programs that serve Oregon’s youngest learners, ages 0-6. House Bill 4164 approves the business plan of the Oregon Health Insurance Exchange, an important step toward increasing access to quality, affordable health insurance for small businesses and individuals.
