Join the City Club of Eugene to hear from candidates for Secretary of State.
On May 19, voters in Oregon will elect party candidates for the Oregon Secretary of State to proceed to the general election. The Secretary of State is first in the line of succession to the Oregon Governor, as happened in 2015 when Secretary Kate Brown rose to replace Governor John Kitzhaber after his resignation. Jean Atkins was named as interim Secretary for the completion of Secretary Brown’s term. Dennis Richardson was elected in 2017 and the current Secretary, Bev Clarno, was named by Governor Brown to replace him after his death in February of 2019.
The Secretary is responsible for overseeing the Elections Division, the Audits Division, the Corporate Division, the State Archives, the staff within the office of the Secretary of State. The Secretary is one of three members of the State Land Board.
Invited candidates include Shemia Fagan, Mark Hass, Jamie McLeod-Skinner, and Dave Stauffer.
