Livable Communities Townhall

This year, Oregonians will choose a new Governor, and AARP Oregon is offering a virtual four-part online Our State, Our Future townhall series for members statewide to make their voices heard as they learn about critical issues impacting the 50+ community. These interactive events will feature subject matter experts and provide participants the opportunity to share their perspectives and experiences on issues that matter to them.

This second townhall will focus on Livable Communities: Housing & Transportation. According to AARP research, 80% of people over 50 want to remain in their own home or community as they age. Affordability, accessibility, and variety in housing, as well as safe, reliable and affordable transportation options are critical to healthy and sustainable aging in place. Panelists include Rob Zako, Better Eugene Springfield Transportation Executive Director, Laura Golino de Lovato, Northwest Pilot Project Executive Director, and Alan DeLaTorre, City of Portland Age-Friendly Program Manager.

Register here for this townhall to share your experience and learn about the key housing and transportation issues that impact 50+ Oregonians, including the high rate of pedestrian deaths among older adults and the housing cost burdens faced by both renters and homeowners.
