Dolores Huerta & César Chávez Celebration


The Springfield Alliance for Equity & Respect and Springfield School District are hosting a celebration to honor the life and legacy of two outstanding Latinx leaders, Dolores Huerta and César Chávez. The Celebration will take place from Mar. 31 – Apr. 8 and will be a family-oriented, fully bilingual cultural event for the whole community. The highlight will be an interview of Dolores Huerta conducted by Springfield elementary, middle and high school students.

The Celebration features activities every day from César Chávez’s birthday on March 31 through April 8, two days before Dolores Huerta’s birthday on Apr. 10.  The schedule:

  • Mar. 31 --- Quizzes + raffle drawing

  • Apr. 1 --- Cooking demonstration + raffle drawing

  • Apr. 2 --- Video of student submissions + raffle drawing

  • Apr. 3 --- Book read-aloud with Emilio Hernandez and Naomi Raven + raffle drawing

  • Apr. 4 --- Online photo gallery + raffle drawing

  • Apr. 5 --- TBA + raffle drawing

  • Apr. 6 --- Guy Lee student performances + raffle drawing

  • Apr. 7 --- Mariachi del Sol performance + raffle drawing

 All of these activities can be found on the Celebration’s website. It also includes a history of Dolores Huerta and César Chávez; resources for learning; and ways families can participate, like a quiz with the chance to earn raffle tickets. Prizes include t-shirts, books donated by Springfield Library, seeds and recipes donated by the School Garden Project, and garden stones with inspirational messages and designs.
